General Accountant

Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Pay Range:  DOE/DOQ

Hours per Week: 40 hours

Workdays: Monday to Friday 8-5

JOB PURPOSE:   Maintains General Ledger accounts and organization's transactions by apply the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including analytical work and review of financial information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate general and subsidiary ledger accounts ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor financial project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
  • Prepare monthly billing and quarterly reporting required for Salish Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization (SBH-ASO) and other partner agencies.
  • Maintain the petty cash reimbursement process and requests for reimbursement.
  • Assist in monthly financial statement preparation, including month end reconciliations, journal entries, cost allocations, fixed asset maintenance, reviews and reporting.
  • Assists in the coordination of the annual independent financial and 403b audit.
  • May step in as back-up for Payroll, Credentialing, and Accounts Receivable/Payable.
  • Assist in development of policy and procedures for the Finance Department.
  • Assist in preparation and maintenance of a monthly Budget verses Actual report, which provides variance analysis of Program expenses.
  • Participate in distribution of monthly reports to Program Managers and meetings to discuss variances.
  • Prepare special ad hoc financial reports as requested, by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information utilizing agency accounting and/or electronic health record software.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Dedicates necessary time to cross-train in other positions and responsibilities within the Finance department.
  • Participate in annual budget process.
  • Maintains familiarity with and handles client information in accordance with Federal Regulations (42 CFR, part 2), the Revised Code of Washington (71.05.390 and 71.24) and other applicable laws pertaining to the confidentiality of client and staff information.
  • Maintains physical security of confidential materials and assigned Agency property.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSE(S), CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:   Bachelor's degree in Business, with an emphasis in Accounting (or equivalent experience)

Experience:  2-5 years of financial reporting and accounting experience

Additional requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Must be able to provide vaccination records for MMR, Hep B, Tdap and recent flu shot

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High competency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and databases
  • MIP/Sage Fund Accounting experience
